Charles Russell Sanderson, Baron Sanderson of Bowden Kt DL (* 30th April 1933 ) is a British textile entrepreneurs , business leaders and politicians of the Conservative Party , which since 1985 as a peer Life Member of the House of Lords is.

Life

Military and professional career

After attending school, Sanderson joined the Royal Corps of Signals in 1952 and served between 1953 and 1956 first in the Signal Regiment of the 51st (Highland) Division of the Territorial Army and then until 1958 with the King's Own Scottish Borderers of the Territorial Army.

After completing his military service , he joined the family company Chas as a partner in 1958 . P. Sanderson Wool & Yarn Merchants in Melrose and worked for this until 1987.

In the mid-1970s, Sanderson, who became a member of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 1972 , began his political career in the Conservative Party and was first Vice President from 1975 to 1977 and then from 1977 to 1979 President of the Association of Scottish Conservatives and Unionists. At the same time he was a member of the Executive Committee of the National Union of Conservative Associations between 1977 and 1986 and was initially its vice-chairman between 1979 and 1981 and then its chairman from 1981 to 1986.

During this time, Sanderson, who was Governor of St. Mary's School in Melrose from 1978 to 1987, was Governor of the Scottish College of Textiles between 1980 and 1987, and from 1982 to 2000 a member of the council of Trinity College in Glenalmond, of which he was last chairman 1994 to 2000 was. Lord Sanderson, who served on the Council of Edinburgh Napier University from 1994 to 2001 , continued to serve as Honorary President of the Association of Scottish Conservatives and Unionists from 1996 to 2000. After serving as vice-chairman of the Scottish Peers' Association between 1996 and 1997 , he was its chairman from 1998 to 2000.

During this time he was also chairman of St. Mary's School in Melrose from 1998 to 2004 and a board member of Yorkshire Bank plc from 1999 to 2004. Since 2000 he has also been involved in the traditional Livery Company of the Worshipful Company of Framework Knitters and is one of them since then their assistance committee has been a member.
