Charles Stinson

Charles Herbert Stinson (born December 17, 1931 in Los Angeles County , California , † March 12, 2012 in White River Junction , Vermont ) was an American religious scholar.

Life

Charles Stinson was born from the marriage of Herbert H. Stinson, a Hollywood screenwriter, writer for Black Mask and journalist for The Los Angeles Times , and Evelyn Mae Stinson. After graduating from Immaculate Heart College in Los Angeles (Bachelor in Scholastic Philosophy in summa cum laude ; 1962), a degree from Georgetown University in Washington (Master in Greek and Medieval Philosophy; 1964), a degree from the Catholic University of America in Washington (Master in Dogmatics ; 1966) he received his PhD in Historical Theology in 1970 at Columbia University-Union Theological Seminary in New York .

Stinson taught from 1968 until his retirement in 2003 at the religious studies faculty of Dartmouth College, founded in 1769 in Hanover , New Hampshire , the subject of Christian Religion in the Middle Ages . He was a member of the American Academy of Religion (AAR) from 1989 to 2002 .

Stinson wrote a widely acclaimed work on Beda Venerabilis , an Anglo-Saxon Benedictine monk , theologian, and historian .
