Charles de Gaucourt

Charles (I.) de Gaucourt († 1482 in Paris ) was a French nobleman and military man who was primarily employed in the regional military administration, e.g. B. as governor of Picardy .

Life

Charles de Gaucourt was the eldest son of Raoul (VI.) De Gaucourt († 1461/62), Seigneur de Gaucourt etc., and Jeanne de Preuilly († 1455), Dame de Naillac, Châteaubrun and Cluys-Dessus, and brother of Jean de Gaucourt († 1468), who became Bishop of Laon and Pair de France in 1460 .

He was Seigneur de Gaucourt, Hargicourt , Châteaubrun (in Berry ), Robais, Manicamp , Naillac, Florac et Audivier, and Viscount d'Acy. He had already received Châteaubrun, which his mother owned, while his father was still alive. Manicamp had been given to him as a young man on October 18, 1448 by the previous owner in return for lifelong usufruct. Around 1450/53 he was first chamberlain to King Charles VII.

King Louis XI. knighted him on August 15, 1461 on the occasion of his coronation in Reims . On March 7, 1464, he sent him to Berry to administer the duchy after Charles de Valois, duc de Berry, had retired to Brittany. On October 27, 1465 he became captain of Chinon , Rouen and Gisors as successor to his father, around June 30, 1469 he was made Capitaine et Castellan de Vierzon as a replacement for Rouen and Gisors, Louis XI. now forgiven elsewhere.

Charles de Gaucourt died in Paris in 1482 and was buried in the church of Saint-Jean-en-Grève .
