Charlie Waite
Charlie Waite (born February 18, 1949 in Paddington , London ) is an English photographer and author of over 30 photo books on landscape photography .
life and career
Waite, born in Paddington in 1949 , attended Lord Wandsworth College in Hampshire from 1960 to 1964 . From 1968 he worked as an actor in British theaters and on television for around 10 years. From 1976 on he studied photography for 2 years at Salisbury College of Art. In 1982 the illustrated book " The National Trust Book of Long Walks " was published, the first of more than 30 photo books for which Charlie Waite has become famous worldwide as a landscape photographer. This was followed by photo exhibitions in London (5 times), Tokyo (2 times), at the Center for Photographic Art Carmel in California in 1999, on Broadway in New York in 2002, and at the OXO Gallery London in 2002, 2003 and 2004 Also in Australia including Sydney , Melbourne and Brisbane .
In 2005 he finished the project " Seeing Scotland ", a BAFTA- winning English documentary series in collaboration with his daughter, the director Ella Waite.
He lives in Dorset , UK.
Charlie Waite is the founder and jury member of the £ 10,000 Take A View Award - Landscape Photographer of the Year, which has been presented annually since 2007 .
The well-known Air Force officer Rex Waite , one of the initiators of the Berlin Airlift , was his father, whose memory he and his family keep to this day. On May 12, 2019, he took part as an official guest in the celebrations for the 70th anniversary of the end of the Great Airlift in Berlin .
