Charlot Salwai (born April 24, 1963 on Pentecost Island , Vanuatu ) is a politician and was Prime Minister of Vanuatu from February 11, 2016 to April 20, 2020 .

Salwai, initially holder of the commercial register, entered politics in 1991 as secretary to the then Prime Minister Carlot Korman , followed by other positions as political advisor in various ministries, before he was elected to parliament as a member of Pentecost in 2002 and has so far been re-elected four times.

On July 29, 2004, he was appointed Minister of Trade and Industry and also served as leader of the opposition from 2004 to 2005 , as Whip until 2007 and again from 2013 to 2014.

On August 19, 2004, he took over the post of Minister for Land and Natural Resources and from 2008 twice the post of Minister of Education. On November 19, 2012, he was appointed Minister of Finance and Economic Management. From May 15, 2014 to June 11, 2015, he was Vanuatu's Interior Minister. His election as incumbent Prime Minister of the 11th legislative period took place on February 16, 2016, replacing his predecessor Sato Kilman .

Salwai belongs to the block movement Reunification of Movements for Change , from 2002 to 2012 the Union of Moderate Parties .
