Life

The younger brother of the first Prime Minister of the former British-French condominium Vanuatu , now independent , Walter Hadye Lini , came into politics late and due to the death of his brother. After Walter Lini died in 1999, Ham Lini won his parliamentary seat through a by-election. Hilda Lini , the sister of the two brothers, used to be a minister in the country.

In 2003 he became chairman of the "National United Party" (NUP) founded by Walter Lini and ran unsuccessfully against Serge Vohor for prime minister on July 29, 2004 . However, on August 18, 2004, he was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior in the government of national unity.

After Vohor was overthrown by a vote of no confidence on December 11, 2004, Lini became prime minister himself. On March 21, 2006 he survived a typical vote of no confidence with 30 to 20 votes.
