Charly Jacobs

Charly Jacobs (born July 21, 1948 - † January 9, 2013 ) was a Belgian football player . He was active in the professional field for ten years for Sporting Charleroi and was used once in the Belgian national team .

Career

Jacobs began his career as a senior in 1967 at ROC Charleroi . He then played for four years with the RAA Louviéroise , with which he rose from the fourth to the second division. In 1972 the striker moved to Sporting Charleroi, for whom he scored more than 100 goals in 254 competitive games. Because of his brilliant, "fatal" shots, Charly-la-foudre ("Charly the lightning") became his nickname. For six years he played together with Rainer Gebauer in the storm of the Hennegauer . These were successful years for the club; in Jacobs' active time fell 1977/78 under coach Félix Week, the first final participation in the cup competition; Sporting lost the final against SK Beveren (with goalkeeper Jean-Marie Pfaff ) with 0: 2. After ten seasons in which he had become a figurehead of the club, Jacobs ended his active career at Sporting Charleroi.

National team

In April 1979, national coach Guy Thijs Jacobs was appointed to the senior national team for the first time . In the 0-0 qualification for the 1980 European Championship against Austria on May 2, 1979 in Vienna, he played 86 minutes before he was substituted for Guy Dardenne . On September 12, 1979 he was again part of the “Red Devils” for the next match in the European Championship qualification against Norway , but stayed on the bench in the 2-1 win. This ended his short career as a national player.
