Prussian Chausseehaus in Gossa

The Chausseehaus in Gossa in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district in Saxony-Anhalt is a classicist building from the first quarter of the 19th century. Chausseehausen were part of the standard equipment of the Prussian state showrooms and served as accommodation for the road money collector and for one or more roadside attendants and their families. They often resemble each other on individual road sections.

The single-storey building with the half-hipped roof is located on Chausseestrasse at the southern exit of Gossa and has two small farm buildings. It was built here in the course of the construction of the Halle - Wittenberg section of the Prussian Chaussee Berlin - Kassel (today Bundesstraße 100 ) , so it can be dated to its construction period (1821–1823). The symmetrical structure of the façades is striking, with one window each on the left and right on the street front and the central projection with the entrance doors on the left and right and a window in the middle. This also makes it visually clear that it is a double dwelling, in which the takers, responsible for clearing the route, and guards, employed to keep the condition of the road intact, lived.

In front of the Chausseehaus, which was renovated by 2006, a milestone was made visible again, which is also under monument protection, as is the Chausseehaus itself, which is listed in the monument register with the registration number 094 96396 as a monument .

Individual evidence

  1. The indication “1. V. 20th century ”in the list of monuments in Saxony-Anhalt. Landkreis Bitterfeld , page 86 is obviously a typo, since classicism belongs to the early 19th century and because this section of the road and its equipment (milestones, road houses) were built in the years 1821–1823.
