Chaya Arbel

Chaya Arbel ( Hebrew חיה ארבל; born as Gerda Schloss ; *  June 18, 1921 in Nuremberg ; †  December 14, 2006 in HaMa'apil, Israel ) was an Israeli composer .

Life

After her first piano studies in Nuremberg, she and her family had to emigrate to Palestine from Germany . There she helped to set up the Kibbutz HaMa'apil and worked in agriculture for 25 years. It was not until the 1960s that she resumed her piano and composition studies - with Abel Ehrlich , Mordecai Seter and Leon Schidlowsky . She has received several awards for her work, including a. In 1990 her Dialogue for clarinet and orchestra received the ACUM Prize, awarded by the Society of Authors, Composers and Music Publishers in Israel. In Germany, her setting of Anne Frank's diary was particularly importantknown. Stylistically, Chaya Arbel was in the tradition of the Second Viennese School , in particular that of Alban Berg , in her compositions she used free atonal and serial techniques. Her complete works include orchestral works as well as music for chamber ensembles and solo instruments.
