The 1. HFC Humenné is a Slovak football club from Humenné . It was founded in 1908 as Homonnai Atlétikai Club , or HAC for short . Between 1993 and 2000 Humenné played in the top Slovak division, the Corgoň liga . In 1996 the club won the Slovak Cup under the name Chemlon Humenné .
Club history
Founded in 1908, the club reached the then third-class Slovak national league SNL as TJ Chemlon Humenné in 1975 . In 1977 there was a reorganization of the league structure in Czechoslovak football, which made the SNL second class. Chemlon Humenné stayed in the SNL for the next 15 years without ever intervening in the promotion campaign.
The 1992/93 season was Czechoslovakia's last season together. The first six clubs in the Slovak national league, which has now been renamed the 1st SNFL , were to be promoted to the new Slovak first league. Chemlon Humenné took fifth place and was first class for the first time in the club's history.
In 1993/94 Humenné was only able to avoid relegation due to the better direct comparison with FC Nitra tied on points . The following year you were penultimate in a relegated team. In 1996, Humenné had his greatest success to date, winning the Slovak Football Cup. In the final Chemlon Humenné defeated Spartak Trnava 2-1. At the same time, with seventh place, the best placement in the first division was achieved.
In the 1996/97 European Cup Winners' Cup , the Slovaks defeated Albanian representatives KS Flamurtari Vlora 1-0 and 2-0 in the qualifying round . In the first round, AEK Athens turned out to be too big a hurdle. In Athens they lost 0: 1, at home 1: 2.
After an eleventh, ninth and tenth place, the club renamed HFC Humenné in 1997 had to relegate to the second division in 1999/2000 as twelfth in the table, as the first division was reduced from 16 to ten participants.
After moderate performance, the HFC Humenné 2003/04 could not hold in the second division and was relegated. With a 2-1 win after extra time in the playoff against Tatran NAO Liptovský Mikuláš Humenné succeeded in July 2005, the immediate return to the 2nd division. In 2005/06 Humenné finished eleventh, in 2006/07 after the first half of the season also eleventh.
