Neustadt was a municipality and later a district of Schönau and then Siegmar-Schönau in the urban area of today's Chemnitz in Saxony.

history

Neustadt emerged as Naustadt = newly built dwelling at the end of the 16th century from the so-called "Drescher houses" of the Höckericht manor . There were no corridors like in Siegmar , Schönau and Stelzendorf . Like Schönau, Neustadt developed into a hosiery village . In 1822 about 300 inhabitants and 40 houses were counted. In 1856 the community laid out its own cemetery, which Schönau also used. In 1884 Neustadt and Schönau formed their own parish , but remained politically independent as communities. In 1922 Neustadt was incorporated into Schönau.

The Schönau district continued to exist until 1950. With the incorporation of Siegmar-Schönau into Chemnitz, Neustadt became part of the new West District. After the political turnaround in 1989/1990 and the dissolution of the city districts, Neustadt, in contrast to Reichenbrand and Stelzendorf, was not a separate district, but in the eastern part of Schönau and in the western part of Siegmar. The border was formed by the A 72 .

The only witnesses of the former district are the Neustädter Straße and the former town hall of Neustadt. The latter was only partially rebuilt after being seriously damaged in World War II . The building was extensively renovated and is now used as a residential building.

Gasthof Neustadt

The Neustadt inn was built in 1897 on the site of the old Neustadt inn that burned down in 1894, was first mentioned in 1820 and looked like a stately old farmhouse. The new building served its owner Wilhelm Exner as a hotel, restaurant, garden, concert and ball establishment. In 1912 the building was bought by Friedrich Reimann for his son Max, who ran a butcher shop there. The catering facility was leased. In 1945 the inn was initially used as accommodation for Soviet soldiers. In 1957 the hall and the stage burned down for an unexplained cause. The restaurant was initially continued by Max Reimann's daughter, Lisa Felbrich, and leased from 1980. In 1993 the restaurant was closed. After the building was temporarily placed under monument protection, this was lifted and in May / June 2004 the demolition took place.

traffic

The Zwickauer Straße and the railway line to Hohenstein-Ernstthal and Zwickau run through the district . The A 72 goes straight through the former district.

The CVAG has tapped former district with bus 24th The old line 3 to Reichenbrand , which was discontinued in 1988, ran through Neustadt until May 17, 1980 . Bus lines 41, 73 and N16 (night line) have been running through the Neustadt area since 2008.
