Geographical location of Kabwe in Zambia

Chibombo is a place and a district on a plateau in the extreme south of the central province in Zambia, a little off the asphalt road, 90 kilometers north of the capital Lusaka and 40 kilometers south of Kabwe . The place is 1150 meters above sea level. The district has 241,612 inhabitants (2000 census).

economy

Like Mazabuka , Choma and Monze, Chibombe has been a focus of UN agricultural projects that concern small loans, crop diversification and marketing since the mid-1990s. This has led to a remarkable upswing in the city and district. The small loans are now being repaid in full by the farmers. This indicates their economic consolidation. The yields have doubled. The district is fertile, the Lukanga swamps offer good pastures.

Infrastructure

Chibombo has a 1000 meter long unpaved runway, a primary school and a small hospital. Grass huts dominate the place. On February 7, 2013, 53 people died in a bus collision with a train. The accident is one of the most serious road accidents in Zambian history.

Festivals

Every year in October the Kulamba Kubwalo Lenje Cultural Ceremony takes place, a traditional festival of the local Lenje tribe .
