The Chicopee River is a left tributary of the Connecticut River in the US state of Massachusetts .
The Chicopee River arises at the confluence of the Ware River and Quaboag River at Three Rivers in the Town of Palmer . From there it flows for a distance of 29 km in a westerly direction. It flows through Ludlow , briefly forms the northern city limits of Springfield and finally flows into the Connecticut River in Chicopee . The Chicopee River has the largest catchment area (1,870 km²) of all tributaries of the Connecticut River. Due to its large amount of water and a gradient of 80 m in total, mills settled along the river. There are six dams on the Chicopee River that are used to generate energy.
