Chilahuala (also Puerto Chilahuala ) is a town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
Chilahuala is the third largest town in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) of San Pedro de Curahuara and is located in the province of Gualberto Villarroel . The village is located at an altitude of 3766 m on a river crossing over the Río Desaguadero , which connects Lake Titicaca with Lake Poopó .

Chilahuala lies on the Bolivian Altiplano between the Andes mountain ranges of the Cordillera Occidental in the west and the Cordillera Central in the east. The climate of the region is a typical daytime climate , in which the mean fluctuation of day and night temperatures is more pronounced than that of the seasonal fluctuations.
The annual average temperature of the region is 8 to 9 ° C (see Callapa climate diagram), the monthly values fluctuate only slightly between 5 ° C in July and a good 10 ° C from November to March. Due to the historical development, the region has a high proportion of Aymara population, in the municipality of San Pedro de Curahuara 96.8 percent of the population speak the Aymara language .
