Chilahuala (also Puerto Chilahuala ) is a town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Chilahuala is the third largest town in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) of San Pedro de Curahuara and is located in the province of Gualberto Villarroel . The village is located at an altitude of 3766  m on a river crossing over the Río Desaguadero , which connects Lake Titicaca with Lake Poopó .

Chilahuala lies on the Bolivian Altiplano between the Andes mountain ranges of the Cordillera Occidental in the west and the Cordillera Central in the east. The climate of the region is a typical daytime climate , in which the mean fluctuation of day and night temperatures is more pronounced than that of the seasonal fluctuations.

From La Paz, the paved highway Ruta 2 leads to El Alto , from there Ruta 1 in a southerly direction as an asphalt road to Patacamaya , then Ruta 4 in a south-westerly direction to Cañaviri . From there you can take an unpaved road south via Umala to Chilahuala and after another 37 kilometers in a south-westerly direction you reach San Pedro de Curahuara , the administrative seat of the province.
