Chincha Alta is the capital of the Chincha province in the Ica region of the South American Andean state of Peru . It is located about 210 km south of Lima on the Panamericana . The city had 66,349 inhabitants at the October 2017 census. Ten years earlier the population was 59,574.
Chincha Alta was granted city rights on October 26th, 1874, and by law of October 13th, 1900, as a result of a territorial reform, it was designated the capital of Chincha Province.
The city and its surroundings are considered to be the center of Afro-Peruvian culture; The city is particularly known for music using the cajón .
