Chindongo saulosi ( Syn .: Pseudotropheus saulosi ) is an African cichlid that is endemic to Lake Malawi . Its location was "Taiwan Reef" near the island of Chizumulu .

The species was described in 1989 by Ad Konings and assigned to the genus Pseudotropheus . In 2016 it was placed in the newly introduced genus Chindongo together with other cichlids from the former Pseudotropheus elongatus species group .

With a length of 7 to 8.6 centimeters, it is one of the smaller Mbuna species. The males are black-blue, females are yellow-orange. During the spawning season the males can get an intensely black colored belly, the black transverse ligament is replaced by a strong blue. Young animals show the colors of the females.

Chindongo saulosi lives in the upper areas of rocky shore zones with strong surf. Like other Chindongo species, the species feeds on microscopic organisms (e.g. diatoms and cyanobacteria) that they comb from the algae on the rocks. Like almost all cichlids of Lake Malawi is Chindongo saulosi a mouthbrooders , the males are revier forming. Chindongo saulosi spawns between rocks. Around 30 fry hatch per brood, which are around 10 mm long when released from the female's mouth.
