The Chinggis Khaan International Airport is the international airport of the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar near Bujant Uchaa .

The airport is about 15 kilometers from the center of Ulaanbaatar. The airport is prepared for traffic with the most common types of aircraft . It has an asphalt runway and an emergency runway on rolled earth. Both runways are slightly rising in a side valley. In unfavorable wind conditions, this can lead to not inconsiderable flight delays.
history
Regular operations began in 1961, and the terminal building suitable for international traffic was built in 1986. From 1994 to 1997 the airport was upgraded to category 4D with the help of the Asian Development Bank. Until December 31, 2005 it was called Buyant-Ukhaa International Airport .
In cooperation with two Japanese consulting companies, the planning for a new airport, the Khushigt Valley Airport , began. It arises in the Khoshigt Valley, which is near Zuunmod , about 50 kilometers southwest of Ulaanbaatar. After the construction planning was completed at the end of 2009, the tenders were issued in 2010. Construction began in 2012 and should be completed in 2015. [obsolete] Part of the costs is to be secured by a loan from the Japanese International Cooperation Bank in the amount of 290 million US dollars .

The airport is the hub of the national airlines Blue Sky Aviation , Aero Mongolia and MIAT . The airport is also used by Hunnu Air , Aeroflot , Air China , Turkish Airlines and Korean Air .
