MIAT Mongolian Airlines ( Mongolian МИАТ - Монголын Иргэний Агаарын Тээвэр MIAT - Mongolyn Irgenii Agaaryn Teewer , German , Mongolian Civil Aviation ' ) is the national airline of Mongolia based in Ulaanbaatar and based on the Chinggis Khaan International Airport .
history
The company, founded in 1956, was built up with the help of the USSR and Aeroflot . Flight operations began on July 7, 1956. An Antonov An-24 served the Ulaanbaatar – Irkutsk route. A connection to Beijing was soon discontinued because there was a lack of demand. Originally, the company was closely associated with the Mongolian military, and civil business has only been handled by a separate stock corporation since August 12, 1993 .
Until the mid-2000s, the airline was only known by the acronym MIAT . Due to the better marketability, the external appearance was changed to the current name MIAT Mongolian Airlines .
In May 2011, MIAT Mongolian Airlines took over the first of two leased Boeing 767-300ERs , with which routes previously served with intermediate stops can now be operated as direct flights. At the same time, a new corporate design was introduced with the machine . In return, the two Airbus A310-300s should leave the fleet. In November 2011, the second 767-300ER was integrated into the fleet, replacing the company's last A310-300.
Destinations
MIAT Mongolian Airlines mainly serves international connections to Asia . In German-speaking countries , MIAT flies to Frankfurt am Main and Berlin .
