Cho Jea-ki (born March 17, 1950 ) is a former South Korean judoka . He won an Olympic bronze medal in the open class in 1976.

Career

The 1.83 m tall Cho Jea-ki won a bronze medal in the open class at the 1974 Asian Championships. At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal , he competed in the light heavyweight division and in the open class. In the light heavyweight division, he won his first fight against Willem Maduro of the Netherlands Antilles after 27 seconds. In his second fight he was defeated by Ramas Charschiladze from the Soviet Union with a Yuko rating. After an Ippon victory over Abdoulaye Djiba from Senegal, Cho lost in the battle for a bronze medal to the Briton David Starbrook also through Ippon and finished fifth. The open class was held four days later. Cho defeated the Moroccan Mohamed Zouagh and the Hungarian Imre Varga in his first two fights . In the quarterfinals he was defeated by the Briton Keith Remfry by Waza-ari. With victories over the German Günther Neureuther and the Argentine Jorge Portelli , the South Korean won a bronze medal.

At the 1979 World Championships in Paris, Cho Jea-ki competed in the heavyweight and open classes. In the open class he was defeated in his first fight by the Japanese Sumio Endo and dropped out. In the heavyweight division, he won his first three fights against the British Arthur Mapp , the Swedes Ulf Edberg and the Swiss Jean Zinniker , before losing to the French Jean-Luc Rougé in the semi - finals. In the battle for a bronze medal, he defeated the Yugoslav Radomir Kovačević .
