Christopher "Chris" O'Shea (born July 22, 1981 in Palmer ) is an American basketball coach who is also a citizen of Ireland .

career

Born in Palmer near Anchorage ( Alaska ), O'Shea studied sports management at Flagler College in Florida from 2000 to 2003 . From 2003 he worked as a youth coach for the Austrian Bundesliga club Swans Gmunden , where he was promoted to assistant coach of the Bundesliga team in 2009. In this position, O'Shea worked with head coach Mathias Fischer until 2013 and, as his assistant, contributed to winning the Austrian championship in 2010 and winning the cup in 2010, 2011 and 2012. After Fischer's departure in 2013, O'Shea was assistant trainer in Gmunden under Kresimir Basic. In addition to his duties in Gmunden, O'Shea acted as assistant coach for the U18 national team in 2012 and 2013 (and as head of the selection delegation from 2008 to 2013) and as assistant coach for the men's national team in 2014.

In 2015, O'Shea accepted an offer from the German Bundesliga club Telekom Baskets Bonn  and became Mathias Fischer's co-trainer in the Rhineland, as in Gmunden. As a result of Fischer's dismissal in December 2015, O'Shea remained in the office of assistant coach in Bonn. In January 2019 he first became interim coach after the team split up with Predrag Krunić , and a few days later he became permanent head coach. He led the Rhinelander as seventh in the table in the Bundesliga finals, after the 2018/19 season O'Shea returned to the position of assistant coach. After Thomas Päch's dismissal at the beginning of February 2020, O'Shea was again employed as a transition coach, this time for a few days.
