Chris Thomas King (* 14. October 1962 in Baton Rouge , Louisiana as Durwood Christopher Thomas ) is an American blues musician and actor .

life and career

Chris Thomas King came to music at an early age through his father, the well-known blues singer Tabby Thomas . He tried to make the traditional blues music existing in his environment more accessible to younger people and mixed it with elements of hip-hop , which earned him the reputation of a progressive innovator of blues music. With over 10 million albums sold, King is one of the most famous blues artists of his generation. In addition to the USA, where he appeared in Carnegie Hall and the Apollo Theater , he has toured Europe, Africa and Asia.

Chris Thomas King made his film debut in 2000 starring the musician Tommy Johnson in the Coen brothers' film O Brother, Where Art Thou? - A Mississippi odyssey . The film's album, whose music he was involved in, won the 2002 Grammy Award for Album of the Year . He then went on other occasional trips into the film business, such as having an important role in Wim Wenders ' documentary The Soul of Man (2003) and starring as Lowell Fulson in the Oscar-winning biopic Ray (2004) alongside Jamie Foxx .

King is married to Mariann Rodgers King and the couple have three children.
