Tabby Thomas

Ernest "Rockin 'Tabby" Thomas (born January 5, 1929 in Baton Rouge , Louisiana ; † January 1, 2014 ibid) was an American guitarist and singer of the swamp blues .

Thomas began his career as a musician while serving in the US Air Force. During the 1950s he sang in an R&B band and made his first records, influenced by Roy Brown . In 1954 he began working with producer Jay Miller, the most successful being the song Hoodoo Party , which was released in 1962 on Excello Records. In 1981, Thomas opened Tabby's Blues Box in Baton Rouge , which lasted until 2004. Larry Garner performed there regularly in the early years . Tabby Thomas is the father of musician and actor Chris Thomas King.

Tabby Thomas died of natural causes at his Baton Rouge home on New Year's Day 2014 shortly before his 85th birthday . His son Chris Thomas King is also a well-known blues musician.
