Larry Garner (born July 8, 1952 , New Orleans , Louisiana ) is an American guitarist , singer and songwriter of the Louisiana blues .

biography

Garner grew up in Baton Rouge . There he was inspired by the guitar-playing preacher Reverend Utah Smith. Garner made the acquaintance of blues musicians there such as Lonesome Sundown, Silas Hogan, Guitar Kelley and Tabby Thomas . Musically he was influenced by Hogan, Clarence Edwards, Jimi Hendrix and Henry Gray . Larry Garner received private guitar lessons, including from his uncle. After completing his military service in Korea, he returned to Baton Rouge. He worked intermittently as a musician while also a full-time employee at Dow Chemical .

Garner won the International Blues Challenge in 1988 . His first two albums Double Dues and Too Blues published by the British label JSP Records. The title of the album Too Blues was an allusion to a comment by a JSP employee that the demo version submitted by Garner was too blues . Tabby Thomas' club, Tabby's Blues Box, gave Garner regular appearances in the 1980s and also provided the theme for the strongest song on Double Dues , No Free Rides .

On You Need to Live a Little (1996) was followed by Standing Room Only (1998), Baton Rouge (1999) and in 2000 Once Upon the Blues. On the album Baton Rouge , Go To Baton Rouge provided a guide to some of the most important places in Louisiana for music.

In 2008, Larry Garner was seriously ill, which he processed in his album Here Today Gone Tomorrow , which was released in the same year .
