history

In 1954 the Protestant Zinzendorf congregation was separated from the congregation of the church on Tempelhofer Feld and became independent. The church was consecrated on September 23, 1956. In 2006 the Zinzendorf parish, the parishes Alt-Tempelhof-Ost and Neu-Tempelhof merged to form the evangelical Paulus parish Tempelhof. In 2008 the building was sold to the Serbian Orthodox community.

The church has relics of St. Nikolaj Srpski ( Nikolaj Velimirović ), who is very much appreciated by the faithful, especially since the parish of Berlin made a documentary about the life and work of St. Nikolaj had turned.

The mixed choir Serafimi , consisting of 25 members, has been operating since 2009 . The choir sings to the Sunday liturgy and occasionally holds spiritual Orthodox concerts in Berlin. The conductor of the choir is Simeon Sekulić. There is also the Serbian School Sv. Sava Srpski , named after the founder of the Serbian Orthodox Church, St. Sava of Serbia . The school teaches doctrine of the faith, the Serbian language , history and geography of Serbia, and Serbian Orthodox church music.

Building description, equipment

Narrow, high windows in the side walls give the church room daylight. In 1976 the interior design was redesigned. Instead of the original alignment of the altar on one of the narrow sides, the church received a mobile, round communion table in the middle of the room . The pews were arranged concentrically towards this. The community center consists of a hall church with ground-level extensions for the community rooms.

When the church was taken over by the Serbian Orthodox community, the church was renovated and appropriate changes were made to adapt the church interior for Orthodox services. In 2011 a new iconostasis with icons was installed in the church. The iconostasis made of carved walnut wood is the work of the carpenter Dragoslav Milikić from the central Serbian town of Čačak . The icons of the iconostasis were painted in the Belgrade icon workshop of Petar Bilić.

Bells and tower

The bell tower is designed as an open reinforced concrete skeleton . In his belfry hangs a chime made of two chilled cast iron bells , which were cast by Franz Weeren in 1956.
