Christian August von Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg (born August 4, 1696 in Augustenburg Castle ; † January 20, 1754 ibid) was Duke of Augustenburg and royal Danish general of the infantry .

origin

His parents were Friedrich Wilhelm von Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg (1668–1714) and his wife Sophie Amalie von Ahlefeldt zu Langeland (1675–1741), daughter of the Grand Chancellor Friedrich von Ahlefeldt .

Life

After the death of his father on June 3, 1714 he inherited Augustenburg Castle with Avlsgaard, Rumorsgaard on Alsen and Avnbølgaard in Sundewitt . After paying homage to the Danish King Frederick IV at Gottorf Castle , he was appointed Knight of the Elephant Order on November 4, 1721 . In 1725 he bought Gravenstein Castle from the Ahlefeldt family with the help of his wife's dowry . In addition he bought the goods Fiskebæk and Kiding later Aarup and Kjelstrup. On December 30, 1730 he received from King Christian VI. the Gammelgård and Majbølgård estates for fief. In 1731 he inherited the divided Duchy of Augustenburg from his uncle Ernst August . In 1733 he was appointed as the successor to Wilhelm Friedrich von Platen as governor on Als and bailiff on Sønderborg .

He married Countess Friederike Luise von Danneskiold-Samsoe (October 2, 1699 - December 2, 1744) daughter of Christian Gyldenløve (February 28, 1674 - June 16, 1703) on July 21, 1720 in Kalundborg . The couple had the following children:
