Christian Döring (* 1954 in Berlin ) is a German publishing editor who, among other things , has decisively shaped the programming of publishers such as Suhrkamp Verlag and Dumont Verlag . He is a juror for various literary prizes . According to Spiegel , he is one of the “striking figures in the German book industry”.

Live and act

Christian Döring studied in Heidelberg, Frankfurt and Berlin philosophy . From 1987 to 1997 he was editor at Suhrkamp Verlag in Frankfurt am Main , where he was responsible for contemporary German literature. There he gave the anthological books “First Insights. Latest prose from the Federal Republic ”and“ Beautiful prospects. New prose from the GDR ”. He edited the anthology “Reading in the Book” from Edition Suhrkamp, ​​as well as the two collections of poetry and prose from the 1980s, “Something that counts” and the 1990s “optimistic mood”.

Subsequently, he moved to Dumont Verlag, where he was program manager for literature until 2006. Since 2011 he has been working in the same position for Die Andere Bibliothek . From 2009 to 2012 he was also responsible as a lecturer for the publication series Münchner Reden zur Poetry of the Lyrik Kabinett . He is a member of the board of trustees in the Lyrik Kabinett. Many well-known authors, especially lyric poets , have been supervised by Christian Döring as editor for years, including Thomas Kling , Robert Schindel , Marcel Beyer , Ulrike Draesner , Jan Koneffke , Joachim Sartorius and Kurt Drawert . Christian Döring also devotes himself to advanced training for authors and offers workshops for authors. He lives as a freelance editor and editor in Berlin, Paris and Venice.
