Christian Deutsch (politician)

Christian Deutsch (born February 27, 1962 in Linz ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ), member of the Vienna Landtag and member of the Vienna City Council as well as federal manager of the SPÖ.

School and professional career

Christian Deutsch first attended elementary school and graduated from the Kollegium Aloisianum in Linz- Freinberg . From 1980 he studied medicine for a few semesters at the University of Vienna and between 1983 and 1987 he was State Secretary of the Socialist Youth Vienna. Between 1985 and 1988, Deutsch worked as a consultant for the Zentralsparkasse in the fields of advertising and marketing and from 1987 to 1988 he was the municipal tenant secretary of the Vienna Tenants' Association. From 1989 to 1996, Deutsch worked as the district secretary of the SPÖ Wien- Liesing and in 1996 began working for ARWAG on cooperation projects with the City of Vienna. In 2001 he switched to Wohnservice-Wien Ges.mbH, where he was managing director from 2006 to 2008.

Political career

Deutsch started his political activities during his studies. From 1983 he was state secretary of the Socialist Youth Vienna and in 1987 became chairman of the SPÖ Alterlaa in Vienna-Liesing, member of the control of the SPÖ Vienna-Liesing (until 1988) and district council in Liesing (until 1995). He was heavily involved in tenant protection and was chairman of the Liesing tenants 'association from 1989 to 2003 and member of the state and association board member of the tenants' association between 1991 and 2003.

Between 1995 and 1996, Deutsch was a member of the Vienna State Parliament and a member of the municipal council for the first time. Since 2001 he has again represented the SPÖ in the local council and is active in the 18th electoral term in the council committees health and social affairs as well as urban development and transport.

Deutsch has also been deputy district chairman of the SPÖ Vienna-Liesing since 1997, chairman of the Liesing Adult Education Center since 2001 and member of the board of the Association of Viennese Adult Education since 2002.

On October 13, 2008, Deutsch succeeded Harry Kopietz as state party secretary of the SPÖ Vienna and resigned from his post in July 2014.

SPÖ federal party chairman Pamela Rendi-Wagner brought him in June 2019 as campaign manager for the 2019 National Council election in Austria . After the massive loss of votes by the SPÖ in the 2019 National Council election, Christian Deutsch succeeded Thomas Drozda, who had resigned, as Federal Managing Director on September 30, 2019 .

Private

Christian Deutsch is the father of three children and lives with the former diver Anja Richter (* 1977).
