Christian Eisenberger

Christian Eisenberger (* 1978 in Semriach near Graz) is an Austrian visual artist.

Life

Christian Eisenberger began his training in 1999 at the HTBLVA Graz-Ortweinschule in Graz. He then studied transmedia art from 2000 to 2004 in Brigitte Kowanz's class at the University of Applied Arts Vienna . In 2013, Eisenberger took part in the artist in residence program of the one world foundation in Sri Lanka at the invitation of Galerie Krinzinger .

The artist became known through thousands and thousands of painted cardboard boxes, which he initially placed anonymously in public spaces. Social outsiders such as migrants or beggars were found as motifs. Later, the photos of famous figures from world history were displayed, mostly with a halo. Typically, these were provided with a number, the last was numbered 9975.1 The ephemeral character of this early series can still be found in numerous works today. Christian Eisenberger's work as a whole defies precise categorization. Nevertheless, Land Art , Concept Art , Arte povera , Appropriation Art , Performance , Video Art, etc. a. connected. But there are also numerous points of reference to classical genres such as (expressionist) painting and sculpture. The subjects around which the work revolves are just as numerous: Classical subjects from art history (life, death, vanitas motifs) are treated as well as political and institutional-critical approaches. His art creates a complex, but by no means pathos-rich universe. The artist typically works in series, individual approaches and ideas are often worked on over years. His work does not grow linearly but radially.
