The Konzett Gallery is an art gallery in Vienna .

history

The Konzett Gallery was founded in 1989 in Graz by the art dealer Philipp Konzett (* 1965). Since 2006 the headquarters of the gallery has been in downtown Vienna.

concept

The gallery's exhibition program is thematic and aims to create a connection between the collection and the latest artistic positions, including Christian Eisenberger , Michael Horsky, Rita Nowak, Paul Renner and Hans Weigand.

The KonzettKonzeptKonzert, or KKK for short, has been an integral part of the gallery program since 2014. The aim of this interdisciplinary project series is to question traditional mediation strategies and to subject them to a critical reorientation. Exhibition objects and pieces of music are related to one another under a thematic aspect, condensed, complementary or counterpoint. A “sounding catalog” connects the two levels: For a musical ritornello , texts relating to the content and concept of the respective project are recited as an introduction, information and transition. The initiators and curators are Philipp Konzett (visual arts) and Michael Mautner (music).

The gallery regularly takes part in Art Cologne and Viennafair .

collection

The gallery has an extensive collection of ethnographic art from Africa and Asia; in addition, Konzett began collecting works of Viennese Actionism in the early 1980s . In the meantime, the work of Günter Brus , Otto Muehl , Hermann Nitsch and Rudolf Schwarzkogler has been largely recorded for each work and is supplemented by documentation such as photographs, graphics, films, books and autographs.

The collection also includes the international “actionist context”. Starting with the pioneer of contemporary art, Marcel Duchamp , representatives of early performative and “direct art” movements are part of the portfolio, such as the Gutai Group and NO! Art , but also feminist positions such as Gina Pane , Carolee Schneemann and VALIE EXPORT . Joseph Beuys and Dieter Roth , who deal with questions of transience and sustainability, represent a coherent counterpart to the physical art of Actionism. With Martin Kippenberger , Rudolf Polanszky , Franz West and Heimo Zobernig , a reference is made to the next generation.

Exhibits from the collection are on loan in numerous international exhibitions dealing with avant-garde art movements around 1960. Parts of the holdings will also be the subject of independent presentations, such as The surgical view. Staged photography. The Konzett Collection in WestLicht. Location for photography , Viennese actionism - what now? The Konzett collection in the Palais Liechtenstein and Joseph Beuys. Shaman in the Kunsthalle Krems and the Städtische Galerie Ravensburg, all in 2009. As one of the largest Austrian art collectors, he was prominently represented in the exhibition Discovering and Possessing Insights into Austrian Private Collections in autumn 2005 at the Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Vienna .
