Christian Frank (theologian)

Christian Friedrich Alexander Frank (born April 28, 1787 in Vöhl ; † July 5, 1851 in Darmstadt ) was a Hessian pastor, entrepreneur and liberal politician and member of the 2nd Chamber of the Estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse .

Christian Frank was the son of the pastor and inspector Friedrich Heinrich Alexander Frank and his wife Luise Friederike Elisabetha Christina, née Bichmann or Buchmann. The pastor and member of the state parliament Karl Frank was his brother. Frank, who was a Protestant, married Sophie Dorothea Charlotte born Borberg (1801–1869) on October 20, 1821 in Nidda .

Frank studied theology at the University of Giessen and was parish assistant in Vöhl from 1809 to 1812 before he succeeded his father as pastor there. In 1831 he became inspector in Vöhl and in 1833 dean of the Protestant dean's office in Itter. In 1834 he was transferred to Hatzfeld as a pastor due to his liberal attitudes and dismissed as a pastor in 1838. In 1836 he was the founder of a hammer mill in Reddighausen (initially through a straw man) together with his brother Georg, after having previously acquired a stake in the Bericher Hütte. The common ironworks company Frank`sche Eisenwerke in Reddighausen and Dillenburg was split up after his untimely death.

From 1841 to 1851 he was a member of the Second Chamber of the Estates. He was elected for the constituency of Upper Hesse 1 and 2 / Battenberg . In 1848 he was a member of the commission for the improvement of the school system. In 1848 he was a member of the preliminary parliament .
