Christian Gottfried Nestler

Christian Gottfried Nestler (also: Chrétien Géofroy , Chrétien Geoffroy ) (born March 1, 1778 in Strasbourg , † October 2, 1832 in Strasbourg) was a professor of botany and pharmacy in Strasbourg. Its official botanical author's abbreviation is “ Nestl. "

Live and act

He was a pharmacist in Alsace and from 1806 to 1810 a military pharmacist . He studied in Paris and was a student of LC Richard . He was in correspondence with Johann Bartholomäus Trommsdorff . He was assistant to Dominique Villars , later professor of botany and pharmacy at the university and director of the Botanical Garden in Strasbourg. In 1830 he discovered the moss Trichostomum viridulum from the Pottiaceae family on the banks of the Rhine . In 1819 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .

Honors

Kurt Sprengel named the South African sunflower genus Nestlera (Tribus Gnaphalieae ) after him .
