Christian Grünig (born May 27, 1858 in Burgistein ; † October 17, 1925 there ) was a Swiss farmer , pietist and supporter of the sanctification movement .

Life

Christian Grünig was the son of the farmer of the same name, Christian Grünig. He took up his father's profession and became a farmer in Burgistein.

In 1885, in the circle of Franz Eugen Schlachter and the Salvationist Anna von Wattenwyl , the sanctification movement took hold , and from 1892 he worked as an original and successful peasant evangelist in the service of the Evangelical Society of the Canton of Bern .

He was one of the leaders of the radical perfectionist wing of the sanctification movement, whose goal was to lead a Christian life without conscious sin in an enduring love for God, and which from 1907 onwards led to splits within Bernese neo-pietism, from which, among other things, the present-day church for Christ arose .

Although he was banned from evangelizing for years , he did not part with the Evangelical Society.

Christian Grünig was married to Anna Wenger since 1892.

Traditional sayings and statements

  • When asked whether he would also like to have the gift of healing the sick, he replied, no, he does not desire that, otherwise he would have to fear that God would heal too many who he would like to see sick.
  • When Pastor Gottfried von Fellenberg from Oberbalm once reproached him that he had missed a more precise text interpretation in his address, Grünig said that this was the difference between her preaching: von Fellenberg walked through the text with people while he went through the text with the text People go.
  • He only trusts the faith of a Christian, said Grünig, when he has married and inherited once!
