VOOV (bourgeois Christian Graupner , * 1957 in Rastatt ) is a German composer , musician , music producer and media artist . Since 1980 he has been producing sound carriers and avant-garde music for the fields of film and television .

life and work

Christian Graupner studied graphic design . Later he worked as a visual artist. He has been working as a sound and video artist in Berlin since the early 1980s.

In search of a striking new word mark, Christian Graupner coined the fantasy name VOOV and initially named his music duo with their partner at the time, “Wüst”. After the duo broke up, he adopted “VOOV” as his solo artist name. At the beginning of the 90s the track “B-USER”, recorded with DJ Jonzon (Jon Stöckemann), achieved cult status and a well-attended series of open air festivals was named after the artist “VOOV-experience”, which VOOV only found out about afterwards. In 1999, the festival organizers at that time, Weigert / Ahrens GbR, agreed with VOOV to license the name for limited use. With the dissolution of Weigert / Ahrens of the GBR 2007 the right to use the name expired. The renewed renaming of the meanwhile commercialized event in VOOVfestival by other organizers in 2016 was not authorized by VOOV.

In the early 1990s, VOOV composed several film soundtracks, such as for N. Schillings Deutschfieber and the K.aF.ka fragment by Christian Frosch. He worked with FM Einheit in various theater music productions and composed numerous TV jingles as well as the soundtrack for Nv Koslowski's award-winning radio play "Der Crash". In 1991 he co-produced Two Faces for the Rainbirds . He also worked as a co-producer and sound engineer for Paul van Dyk , and he has published a number of singles, remixes and contributions to samplers. In 1999 he was involved in the Alphaville box set Dreamscapes and played for Burning Wheels . 'Peace on Earth' was written around 1987 by VOOV, Eric Sooter (sOOt) and Hanns-Joachim Mennicken (RIP) and performed and published by BOOOM operators (then BOOM operators). The work was covered by Marian Gold in 1992 and appeared on the Alphaville CD box set 'Dreamscapes' in 1999. The music for 'In Those Days' was composed by VOOV. The text is from Marian Gold and contains quotations from Paul Celan's death fugue. The composition goes back to VOOV's title 'Langela Days', (1992) DeutschFieber (original soundtrack). The official version including the remix was released in 2020 on the HUMATIC label. In 2000 he co-founded the independent artist collective HUMATIC, which to this day produces complex and mostly interactive media installations. In 2019 he founded the music label HUMATIC of the same name.

He is a guest artist at the Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe .
