Christian Gudehus

Christian P. Gudehus (* 1968 ) is a German social psychologist .

Life

Gudehus studied philosophy, French, political science, sociology and social psychology in Düsseldorf and Hanover. From 1997 to 2002 he worked in adult education. In 1998 he designed the exhibition Soviet Prisoners of War 1941–1945 for the Lower Saxony State Center for Political Education . In 2000/01 he was a freelancer at the Old Synagogue in Essen and in 2001/02 he was a fellow of the research and work center "Education after / about Auschwitz". Gudehus started studying at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Hanover in 2006 with the dissertation “ Dem Gedächtnis”, funded by the Hans Böckler Foundation . Stories about Nazi crimes and their representation in German memorials to Dr. phil. PhD.

He was then scientific director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Memory Research at the Institute for Cultural Studies in Essen (2005–2011) and head of the research development department at the University of Flensburg (2012/13). Since 2014 he has been an associate at the Hans Kilian and Lotte Köhler Center for Social and Cultural Psychology and Historical Anthropology at the Ruhr University Bochum . He conducts research in the area of memory and violence .

In addition, he was Associé at the Institut des Sciences sociales du Politique at the Université de Paris-Ouest and Goethe Institut Scholar in Residence at the Centro de Estudios Sobre Genocido of the Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero in Buenos Aires as well as Professeur Invité at Sciences Po in Paris and Visiting researcher at the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna. From 2015 he is visiting researcher at the Harry S. Truman Research Institute for the Advancement of Peace at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem .

Since 2014 he has been editor-in-chief of the Journal for Genocide Studies and Prevention .
