career

For the 1987/88 round, the Berlin defensive player of BFC Preussen was signed by Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04. On the last round match day, May 21, 1988, the ex-amateur soccer player from Berlin made his debut at home against Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga. He was substituted on by coach Horst Franz in the 83rd minute for Claus-Dieter Wollitz . Schalke was relegated from the Bundesliga and the 1.88 m tall defender accepted an offer from the second division club FC Homburg and moved to Saarland. In the team of President Udo Geitlinger , Managing Director Gerd Schwickert and coach Slobodan Čendić , Herrmann developed into a regular player and was able to celebrate promotion to the Bundesliga at the end of the round thanks to the runner-up. He had played in 36 second division games and scored two goals. The league was not achieved in 1989/90 in the Bundesliga, but Herrmann had proven his suitability for the first class in 28 league games. He got an offer from VfL Bochum for the 1990/91 round and was therefore able to remain in the Bundesliga. In the "Jungs von der Castroper Straße" team, he experienced three rounds of fighting for relegation with the coaches Reinhard Saftig , Rolf Schafstall , Holger Osieck and Jürgen Gelsdorf , and in the summer of 1993 he climbed alongside teammates Thomas Kempe and Rob Reekers with VfL into the 2nd division.

Bochum was too strong for the 2nd division and too weak for the Bundesliga. In 1994 Herrmann played 33 second division games with two goals and Bochum celebrated the championship and return to the Bundesliga with coach Gelsdorf. In 1995 the elevator went back down to the second division and in 1995/96 coach Klaus Toppmöller - Christian Herrmann had again played an active role in 16 league games - led Bochum back to the Bundesliga immediately. Now, with Torsten Kracht and Tomasz Waldoch , two other top performers were already established in the defensive headquarters. The ex-Berliner was still a member of the Bundesliga squad in 1996/97, but was no longer able to play because of his disability.

Christian Herrmann then completed an apprenticeship as a physiotherapist and now runs his own practice in Bochum.
