career

The career of the offensive player Helmut "Helle" Hermann began in the youth of the traditional club Karlsruher FV . In the summer of 1982 he joined the youth department of the Karlsruher SC. Due to his outstanding speed, ball technique and dribbling ability, his way led him through the Baden association selection into the squad of the DFB youth, which was able to win the title at the U16 European Championship in 1984 under coach Berti Vogts . Since he had to undergo a serious operation on his right knee in his last A youth year, he was only able to continue his career in the Association League North Baden after a long period of exposure and hard work in the amateur team under coach Rainer Ulrich . Coach Lothar Buchmann first used the talented young player on November 20, 1985 in the away game against FC Homburg in the 2nd Bundesliga . "Helle" Hermann came on as a substitute for Jürgen Schmidt in the 85th minute in the Homburg Waldstadion .

For the 1986/87 round Winfried Schäfer took over the coaching position of the team in the Wildparkstadion . Hermann, he was still an amateur player, was used in eleven games and scored four goals. By reaching the runner-up position, KSC managed to return to the Bundesliga. In addition to the regular players Arno Glesius , Milorad Pilipovic and Rainer Schütterle , the offensive in Karlsruhe will in future rely on talent from its own ranks. The wing racer made its debut on the start day of the 1987/88 season , on August 1, 1987, in the home game against 1. FC Cologne in the Bundesliga. At the start of the round, the KSC achieved a 1-1 draw against the "billy goat" eleven peppered with experts like Bodo Illgner , Paul Steiner , Morten Olsen , Jürgen Kohler , Thomas Häßler and Flemming Povlsen . Hermann and Glesius formed the KSC heads, Michael Harforth tried to send the two attackers on the journey with long passes. "Helle" Hermann scored his first goal in the Bundesliga in the second home game, August 15, in a 4-1 win against FC Schalke 04. In the 90th minute, he met Toni Schumacher's 4-1 final score guarded gate of the royal blues. In total, Hermann made 28 appearances and 8 goals in his debut season, making him the most successful attacker for the Baden team, who - contrary to the forecasts of many experts - were able to assert themselves with 15th place in the final ranking in the upper house of football. With the youngest squad in the league, the Karlsruhe team took part in the 1988/89 Bundesliga season . Initially traded again as a relegation candidate, the Schäfer-Elf surprised with courageous offensive football and stayed in the upper midfield of the table for the entire preliminary round. In terms of goal scoring, Hermann, who was again used in 28 league games, with only three goals not only lagged behind his own quota of the previous year, but also behind the main players in this season Spies (10), Trapp (7), Simmes (6) and Harforth (5). The highlight of the season for Hermann and his teammates was the round of 16 in the DFB Cup , when the Baden team achieved a surprising 4-3 win against Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich. Hermann shot KSC in the Olympiastadion after just eight minutes and, after Bayern equalized in the meantime, added another lead. Joker Heisig and Libero Bogdan finally made the sensation perfect.

The third Bundesliga year in a row, 1989/90 , was worse for the Karlsruhe team than the 10th place at the end of the season would suggest. Although Rainer Schütterle , who had returned from Stuttgart , the KSC young talent Michael Sternkopf and Eberhard Carl from 1. FC Pforzheim had joined the squad, the attack was the worm. With only six goals each, Hermann and Schütterle were still the most successful goal scorers. The guarantee for the relegation again this year was rather the stable defensive - led by cover chief and header specialist Srećko Bogdan - in front of goalkeeper Alexander Famulla , who was defeated only 39 times. Also in the 1990/91 season, the KSC placed exclusively in the lower half of the table. Sturmtalent Sternkopf was signed by Bayern Munich before the start of the season, with Oliver Kahn and Mehmet Scholl , however, two other players from their own youth moved up into the professional squad, who soon made their way into Winfried Schäfer's regular eleven. While his striker colleague Rainer Schütterle came up with eleven goals this season, Helmut Hermann scored six goals like last year. Schäfer continued to rely on Helmut Hermann's services for the fifth year after his promotion. The season started promisingly for him: in the third minute of the first game against Borussia Dortmund, he entered the scorers list. But the fifth year as a professional was also the last for “Helle” Hermann, because another knee injury - this time on his left knee - meant the end of his career in paid football for the 25-year-old. His last appearance in the Bundesliga was on matchday 20 of the 1991/92 round , when he had to be replaced after 13 minutes of play in Dortmund.

Hermann has been running a football school in Berg in the Upper Palatinate region not far from Karlsruhe since 2000 .
