Christian Jacob Johns (born January 26, 1781 in Hamburg ; † February 9, 1861 ibid) was a German merchant and tea broker and President of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce .

Live and act

Johns did a commercial apprenticeship in Hamburg and then worked in his father's company, CJ Johns. He was the owner of the garden house built by Bundsen in Hamburg-Hamm , after which the park there was also called Johns'scher Park in the 19th century (today part of Hammer Park ). The interior of the country house-like garden house, which later became the property of the Merck family, was the subject of an exhibition "Wachgeküsst" in the Museum of Hamburg History in 2010/11 . Early on, Johns was involved in the finance department and in the plenary session of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, from June 1824 to May 1825 he was its president.

Johns was married to Charlotte Wilhelmine Jürgens since 1803. They had 13 children, including the future Senator Eduard Johns , Adolph Johns , Gustav, Otto, Theodor and Rudolph Johns . He was related to Andreas Hinrich Johns, the owner of the Johns shipyard on the so-called Johns corner on the Großer Grasbrook in the Port of Hamburg , who also operated the first bathing ship on the Elbe .
