Christian Jensen

Christian Jensen (born January 28, 1857 in Galmsbüll ; † February 29, 1936 in Schleswig ) was a teacher, homeland and Frisian researcher.

Life

In North Frisian born Galmsbüll, he graduated from a teacher training in Tonder and went in 1878 to Archsum on Sylt to accept a teaching job. In Keitum he married the captain's daughter Laura geb. Lorenzen, with whom he had three sons, Christian Cornelius Jensen (1883–1940), Dietrich Andreas Jensen (1889–1974) and Karl Jensen (1890–?).

On Sylt, he made friends with the well-known Sylt writer Christian Peter Hansen , who enriched the local history of North Friesland with numerous writings and decisively stimulated his young colleagues to deal with the region and its historical development. After his death, Jensen worked in the Hansen's collection and continued his work. Throughout his life, Christian Jensen collected knowledge and materials, especially on North Frisia, and published numerous articles and writings on this basis. His most comprehensive work was the first edition published in 1891: The North Frisian Islands of Sylt, Föhr, Amrum and the Halligen then and now as well as From the dune beach of the North Sea and the Wadden Sea .
