Christian Liebig (journalist)

Christian Liebig (born March 31, 1968 in Offenbach am Main , † April 7, 2003 in Baghdad ) was a German journalist .

Act

After studying economics, Liebig turned to journalism . He worked for the Neue Ruhr Zeitung , the Associated Press (AP) news agency and most recently for the Focus news magazine . Liebig's work focused on the Balkans , Turkey and Africa .

As an embedded journalist , he took part in the 2003 Iraq war . He was killed by an Iraqi missile near Baghdad on April 7, 2003 , and the 32-year-old Julio Anguita Parrado , correspondent for the Spanish daily El Mundo, died with him .

After Liebig's death, his parents and his partner Beatrice von Keyserlingk and colleagues founded the Christian Liebig Foundation , which is dedicated to building and maintaining schools in Africa . In 2009, the foundation received the “ KIND Award ” from the Kinderlachen association .
