Christian Mertens

Christian Mertens (* 1977 in Altenerding ) is a German film director .

Life

Christian Mertens was born in Altenerding, Bavaria, but grew up in Kiel . From 2001 to 2007 he studied directing at the University of Film and Television "Konrad Wolf" in Potsdam-Babelsberg . His graduation film "Wiedling" was nominated for the "First Steps Award" and "Studio Hamburg Young Talent Award". Since 2004, Mertens has also led seminars for dramaturgy and film directing at various institutes, for example at the University of Kiel . In addition to feature films and documentaries, the Berlin-based director shoots commercials for cinema and TV. He produced music videos a. a. for Niels Frevert , Gisbert zu Knyphausen and Moritz Krämer . His music video “Baukran” won the Schleswig-Holstein film award in 2010. In 2013 he directed the music video Skyline , with which the Swiss pop band Pegasus reached number one in the Swiss single charts.

Together with director and screenwriter Bartosz Werner ( Weed in Paradise ), Mertens published the dramaturgy guide “How to get your script under control” in September 2016 in UVK-Verlag .
