Christian Usefulel (born December 29, 1881 in Guttenberg near Kulmbach ; † February 7, 1942 in Helmbrechts ) was a German teacher and folk song collector .

life and work

Christian Nutzel was born on December 29, 1881 in Guttenberg near Kulmbach . His parents Johann Leonhard and his second wife Sophie ran agriculture and the Gasthaus Zur Goldenen Rose . After attending school and training at the Royal Institute for Teachers' Training in Bayreuth , his professional career took him through Guttenberg, Gelbsreuth near Hollfeld in Franconian Switzerland , and Unterweißbach near Helmbrechts . From 1910 he worked as a teacher and finally headmaster at the elementary school Helmbrechts. There he died on February 7, 1942 of liver disease.

As early as 1910, Christian utel was choirmaster of the Helmbrechts men's choir. Part of the choir took part in the Volkslieder-Preissingen in Kulmbach in 1935, where a second place was achieved.

The folk song collection was created in the years since 1921. It is his great merit not to have made a pre-selection for his recordings. So his collection offers the actually available spectrum of popular songs. Even during his lifetime, the professional world became aware of the collection, 50 songs from it were published as volume 34 of the series Landschaftliche Volkslieder . In 1939 he gave all his material to the German Folk Song Archive in Freiburg: 757 songs, 418 four-line stanzas, 101 children's songs and 86 counting rhymes .
