Christian Philipp Iffland

Christian Philipp Iffland (born October 17, 1750 in Hanover ; † November 19, 1835 there ) was the brother of August Wilhelm Iffland and from 1798 to 1820 mayor of Hanover.

As the son of a registrar and auditor at the War College, Iffland first attended the Lyceum and then studied law at the University of Göttingen from 1769 to 1772. He was a member of the Gustav-Lodge in indissoluble Concordienorden that the student religious C.eT was associated. After working as a lawyer at the Higher Appeal Court in Celle, he was elected 2nd City Secretary of the old town of Hanover in 1776. In 1789 he took over the post of town syndic, in 1792 he was promoted to third mayor. In 1798 he was elected mayor to succeed Ernst Anton Heiliger . During the occupation of Hanover by the Kingdom of Westphaliafrom 1810 to 1813 he was still at the head of the administration, which brought him the charge of collaboration . Nevertheless, he remained in office until 1820. From 1821 until his death in 1835 he was director of the city court. His grave is in the garden cemetery .
