Christian Roos (politician)

Friedrich Christian Roos (born January 25, 1827 in Winterburg , † July 3, 1882 in Krefeld ) was a German politician . He was Lord Mayor of Krefeld and a member of the Prussian mansion .

Life

Roos obtained his Abitur at the grammar school in Bad Kreuznach . He then studied law at the Universities of Giessen and Bonn . In 1847 he became a member of the Corps Rhenania Gießen. In 1848 he joined the Corps Rhenania Bonn . He married Bertha, b. Huth, a daughter of the cast steel manufacturer Friedrich Huth (1807–1868).

1867 Ross served as Councilor in Dusseldorf operates. On November 23, 1871, he became mayor, on January 11, 1873, Lord Mayor of Krefeld. From 1872 to 1882 he was also a member of the Prussian manor house .

During Roos' tenure, Krefeld became an independent urban district in 1873 , the municipal water supply and sewer system were built up, and the construction of the Krefeld-Gladbach-Rheydt railway connection was completed (1877). Roos also promoted the school and education system of the city. He is considered to be the founder of the later Arndt-Gymnasium in Krefeld.

On December 31, 1881 Roos resigned his mayor's office due to illness. He died the following year. His honorary grave with a listed gravestone is located in the main cemetery in Krefeld. The Krefeld council granted him honorary citizenship and Christian-Roos-Strasse was named after him.
