Christian Sagartz

Christian Sagartz (born January 16, 1981 ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). From 2005 he was a member of the Burgenland State Parliament and from 2015 club chairman of the ÖVP Burgenland . He has been a member of the European Parliament since January 23, 2020 .

education

Christian Sagartz attended the grammar school of the Diocese of Eisenstadt for eight years after primary school in Pöttsching . After graduating from high school, Sagartz studied political science and law.

politics

During his school days, Sagartz was involved in the Burgenland student union and later in the JVP Burgenland, where he was also regional chairman from 2002 to 2008. In the municipal council election in 2002 he was elected to the municipal council of Pöttsching and was elected vice mayor for the first time in 2007. He held this office until 2015. Christian Sagartz takes over the duties of the ÖVP club chairman after the 2015 state elections.

After Karoline Edtstadler moved to the Federal Government Kurz II in January 2020, he took over her mandate in the European Parliament .

After the state election in 2020 , he succeeded Thomas Steiner as ÖVP state party leader. Markus Ulram succeeded Sagartz as ÖVP club chairman in the state parliament.
