Christian Siebrecht

Christian Siebrecht (born March 11, 1968 in Essen ) is a former international hockey referee who chaired the men's final at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney .

Siebrecht began his not particularly successful career as a hockey player at the age of six with HC Essen 99 , to which he returned in 1982 after a brief interlude with local rivals Schwarz-Weiß Essen . From 1993 to 2005 he played for the THC Münster before he has been participating in veteran hockey at HHC Haackey in Haaksbergen ( Netherlands ) since 2005 .

He began his referee career at the age of 17 at association level together with his long-term partner, Markus Rüsing , from the ETuF Essen.

He was entrusted with the management of Bundesliga games with the introduction of the 2nd Bundesliga in 1988, in 1989 he was nominated for the 1st Bundesliga.

He played his first international game in 1993 at a 4-nation tournament in Buenos Aires (Argentina). The first highlight of his career was the nomination for the 1998 World Field Hockey Championships in Utrecht (Netherlands), which was preceded by the appointment to the highest category of international referees, the "World Cup and Olympic List". After two nominations for the Champions Trophy (1995 Berlin, 1999 Brisbane), he was nominated for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, together with Richard Wolter and Ute Conen . Here he was entrusted with the management of the men's final, together with the Spaniard Santiago Deo .

After the 2000 Summer Olympics, the Münster-based Siebrecht ended his national and international referee career surprisingly for private reasons and was active as umpires manager for the FIH until 2007.

From 1991 to 1995 Siebrecht was referee chairman of the West German Hockey Association eV , whose sports manager / vice-president of sport he was from 2006 to 2009.

The economist is married and has three children. Professionally, he is Head of Controlling at Hochwald Foods GmbH, a medium-sized company in the food industry.
