Christian Volbracht

Christian Volbracht (born October 11, 1945 in Derneburg ) is a German journalist and author, as well as a book collector and bibliographer an expert on older mushroom literature and the history of truffles. He is also a mushroom expert for the German Society for Mycology .

Journalistic career

Volbracht made his journalistic career at the German press agency dpa. Here he worked among others as a service leader in the domestic department before 1978 for 10 years as office manager in Paris that France coined -Reporting the agency. During his years in Paris, Volbracht also explored gastronomic France and brought French “ savoir vivre ” closer to German readers in many reports. In 1988 he returned from Paris to the dpa headquarters in Hamburg , where he worked as head of service and news until he retired in 2010 and the dpa headquarters moved to Berlin .

Since 2010, Volbracht has been writing as a freelance author on gastronomy topics for the German Press Agency (dpa). He is also a regular author of reports on large wineries around the world for the wine magazine "Fine" at Tre Torri Verlag.

In 2012 his book "Truffles - Myth and Reality" was published about the cultural and scientific history of truffles and the current efforts to promote their culture.

Mycological Collection

In 40 years, Volbracht built up an important collection of old mycological books. His private library "MykoLibri" contains more than 5000 volumes, the oldest book in the collection is the first Italian edition of Pliny , a cradle print from 1481 .

In 2006 Volbracht published the bibliography "MykoLibri. The library of mushroom books". This bibliographic catalog of his collection includes books, writings and prints from six centuries (1481–1959) and is now considered the standard bibliographic work for older mycological works.

Volbracht's work as a collector has resulted in a second-hand bookshop that specializes exclusively in older books on mushrooms.

In autumn 2015, Volbracht showed a selection of his historical books on truffles in the Sinzig Castle Museum in the exhibition "Black on White".
