Christian Wilhelm Snell

Christian Wilhelm Snell (born April 11, 1755 in Dachsenhausen , †  July 31, 1834 in Wiesbaden ) was a Nassau politician and president of the 2nd Chamber of the Estates of the Duchy of Nassau .

family

Christian Wilhelm Snell was the son of the inspector and Metropolitan Johann Peter Snell (January 25, 1720 - April 1, 1797) and his wife Elisabethe, née Fresenius (May 5, 1725 - June 3, 1791). Christian Wilhelm Snell was a Protestant. His sons Ludwig (1785-1854) and Wilhelm (1789-1851) went to Switzerland because of their liberal views and became important politicians there. Her brother Johann Friedrich Snell (born March 6, 1784 in Gießen; November 2, 1839 in Laufenselden) became a pastor. His son Friedrich Snell was also a pastor and after the March Revolution was elected to the Nassau state parliament.

education and profession

Christian Wilhelm Snell studied theology and philosophy at the University of Giessen from 1773 to 1776 . In 1777 he became a private teacher with the bailiff von Braubach , Johann Peter Kekule and in 1779 court master with the regional president Georg Ernst Ludwig Freiherr von Preuschen in Dillenburg .

From 1780 to 1784 Snell was the holder of the 4th teaching position at the pedagogy in Giessen, 1784 prorector at the grammar school Giessen , 1797 director and professor at the grammar school Idstein and 1809 definitor of the ministry of clergy. From 1817 to 1828 he was a Nassau high school supervisor with the supervision of the scholars' schools in Nassau and director of the Weilburg high school . In 1828 he retired

He was the author of numerous textbooks and writings on philosophical and educational topics.

politics

Christian Wilhelm Snell was a member of the second chamber of the Nassau estates from 1818 to 1828. He was elected in the group of heads of the clergy and higher educational institutions. In 1818 he was the first president of the second chamber. In the Landtag sessions in 1820, 1827 and 1828 he was not present in the Landtag.

Honors

In 1811 he received an honorary doctorate from the phil. Faculty of the University of Giessen.
