Christian Ziegra (born February 26, 1719 in Hamburg , † January 22, 1778 in Hamburg) was a Lutheran theologian and Hamburg historian .

life and work

Born as the son of the Hamburg pastor of St. Jacobi, Christian Ziegra, Christian Ziegra first attended the Johanneum in Hamburg and from 1739 the academic high school there.

In May 1741 he began studying theology at the University of Leipzig and in 1743 was awarded the title of Master of Philosophy.

After returning to Hamburg, he passed the theological candidate exam here on November 5, 1745 and worked from 1749 to 1756 as an adjunct to Pastor Nicolaus Alardus . After 1761 he was canonicus minor at the Hamburg Cathedral .

Christian Ziegra has dealt with the history of Hamburg, whereby he has made particular merits when he published certificates and other documents for the ecclesiastical and also profane history of Hamburg. He also published biographies of deserving Hamburgers under the title Hamburger Ehrentempel (1770), based on the estate of the archivist Nicolaus Wilckens († 1724).

Ziegra took part in the theological and church debates of his time through many small contributions and numerous writings.

From 1758 to 1778 Christian Ziegra was the editor of the journal Hamburgische Nachrichten from the erudition circle and the successor journal Voluntary Contributions to the Hamburgische Nachrichten from the erudition circle , which became known through the essays by Johann Melchior Goeze against Gotthold Ephraim Lessing .

Christian Ziegra was unmarried.
