Live and act

After his education in Hamburg studied Wilckens from 1697 jurisprudence at the University of Halle . He later moved to the University of Strasbourg and finally completed his studies on January 10, 1702 as a doctor of law at the University of Basel .

After completing his studies, Wilckens traveled to Switzerland, France, Holland and Germany, then returned to Hamburg and settled here as a lawyer. On May 2, 1721, he was elected archivist of the city of Hamburg as the successor to Nicolaus Stampeel (1673–1749), who was elected councilor in 1721 and later mayor . As an archivist, he published various biographies. Wilckens died just 3 years after taking office at the age of 48. The manuscripts he left behind were auctioned off after his death. The Hamburg theologian and historian Christian Ziegra published some of these writings.
