Life

Nicolaus Alardus came from the Schleswig-Holstein pastor family Alard (us), which went back to Franz Alard . He was a son of the pastor and later general superintendent of the county of Oldenburg Nikolaus Alard (us) (the elder) and his wife Elisabeth, geb. Mohrmann (born 1657; † 1742).

From 1700 he attended the academic high school in Hamburg . From 1703 he studied at the universities of Wittenberg , Leipzig and Copenhagen . In 1705 in Wittenberg he responded to a disputation chaired by Philipp Ludwig Hanneken . After a time in Schleswig , presumably as a private tutor, he became a candidate for the Hamburg Ministry of Spiritual Affairs in 1711 . He received his first pastor's position in 1712 as a deacon (2nd pastor) in Neuenkirchen (Dithmarschen) . In 1717 he came to Steinbek (today Kirchsteinbek ) as a pastor . In 1738 he was appointed Lector Secundarius and Pastor at the Hamburg Cathedral (Alter Mariendom) . Georg Philipp Telemann wrote a cantata for its introduction on November 11, 1738 . After a stroke , Christian Ziegra supported him as an adjunct from 1749 .

Alardus was married to Rebecca Magdalena, born in 1713. Forcke (1691–1716), a daughter of Pastor Matthias Forcke in Steinbek. The couple's children included the diplomat Matthias Andreas Alardus and the Hamburg Senator Christian Heinrich Alardus (the elder, 1729–1791).
